The Medical Explorations Program

What is the Medical Explorations Program?

The Mecical Exploration Program began in 1991 after Dr. Mitchell Goldman, a physician in the Department of Surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, was approached by a West High high school student who wished to learn more about the medical field. The medical explorations program allows local students to learn from practicing doctors.  It has been expanded to include not only local high school students but some interested college students as well.  The fall program consists of once a month lectures that runs September through April.  The six week summer program consists of one week rotations in various departments of the hospital. As the program has grown, so has the demand for instruction in other specialties.  The surgeons of University Surgeons Associates have been selected and have volunteered to be faculty in this worthwhile program.
